FBI's presence in Washington DC expands
Trump intensified his campaign on Sunday, demanding that homeless people “move out IMMEDIATELY” and promising to relocate them “far from the capital.” He described Washington as once “the most beautiful capital in the world” but claimed it has been overtaken by “tents, squalor, filth, and crime.” Addressing criminals, Trump warned, “You do not have to move out. We'll put you in jail where you belong.”
The FBI’s Washington Field Office confirmed agents are participating in an “increased federal law enforcement presence” as part of the effort. This follows Trump’s executive order, “D.C. Safe and Beautiful,” which established a task force to enhance federal enforcement and address crime in the city.
While crime rates in the capital have generally declined, arrests for nonviolent offenses have risen under the initiative. A White House spokesperson told Axios that Trump’s measures have already removed weapons and illegal drugs from the streets within a few nights and deterred potential crimes due to heightened law enforcement.
The exact number of FBI agents involved has not been disclosed, but federal officer deployment has increased in response to violent crime. Additional reports indicate the US military may activate part of the DC National Guard for potential deployment. Trump scheduled a White House press conference Monday to discuss his crime and “beautification” initiatives in Washington.
