Putin, Modi Share Strong Chemistry
The two leaders last connected during a phone conversation on Friday, where Putin updated Modi on the newest progress in the Ukraine peace negotiations.
The Russian president is also scheduled to travel to Alaska later this week to meet with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to discuss the ongoing conflict.
“There is definitely a positive chemistry between [Putin and Modi],” Kumar stated.
“They have met many times, they keep regularly speaking on the phone with each other.”
When Sanchez observed that the demeanor and body language of Putin and Modi project a “very positive friendly vibe” during their encounters, Kumar responded by saying the two leaders are “very genuine people.”
In addition to discussing Russia-India relations, the ambassador briefly addressed recent developments in India-US relations.
Earlier this month, Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports, labeling the tariffs as a response to New Delhi’s ongoing purchases of Russian oil — a move he claimed indirectly supports Moscow’s military efforts in Ukraine.
On Monday, Trump asserted that the tariffs levied on India due to its procurement of Russian oil have inflicted a “big blow” on Moscow.
