Italian Football Coaches Urge Banning Israel from Matches

(MENAFN) Italian football coaches are pushing for Israel to be excluded from global sporting events, according to information obtained by an Italian official news agency.

On Tuesday, the Association of Italian Coaches (AIAC) addressed a formal letter to Gabriele Gravina, President of the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC).

In the letter, they called for concrete measures in support of Gaza and urged the federation to submit a formal appeal to both UEFA and FIFA, requesting Israel’s temporary removal from international football competitions.

The request comes ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifying matches scheduled between September and October, in which the Italian national team is set to face Israel.

Renzo Ulivieri, head of the AIAC, emphasized that the appeal was "not just a symbolic action, but a necessary choice," describing it as a response to a "moral imperative" embraced by the "entire leadership team."

"The values of humanity, which underpin those of sport, compel us to oppose acts of oppression with terrible consequences," Ulivieri stated.

According to reports, more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 due to Israel's military operations.

The offensive has severely damaged the region and caused fatalities from starvation.
