Netanyahu Calls Allegation of US-Iran War Influence ‘Ridiculous’

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday dismissed claims that Israel had pressured the United States into a military conflict with Iran, describing the accusation as “ridiculous.”

“Donald Trump is the strongest leader in the world. He does what he thinks is right for America. He does also what he thinks is right for future generations,” Netanyahu said in an interview with a news outlet.

The remarks came after reports suggested that Netanyahu played a key role in influencing US President Donald Trump toward a war with Iran, lobbying him for months and working to prevent diplomatic efforts from undermining a planned military offensive.

Responding to these claims, Netanyahu stated that Trump “understands” the threat posed by Iran and does not need external persuasion. Addressing Iran directly, he said Tehran is “committed to your destruction.” He added, “Whether people understand it or not, the leader has to understand it. Donald Trump understands it. You don't have to drag him into anything. He does what he thinks is right, and this is right.”

According to reports citing individuals familiar with the deliberations—including US and Israeli officials, diplomats, lawmakers, and intelligence sources—the US decision to strike Iran marked a significant strategic victory for Netanyahu. The report noted that Netanyahu first suggested targeting Iran’s missile sites during a visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in December, and two months later, he secured broader US participation in a campaign aimed at undermining Iranian leadership.

Earlier, Israel announced that it had launched what it called a “preemptive” strike against Iran on Saturday under the codename “Operation Lion’s Roar,” declaring a “special and immediate” state of emergency across the country.
