Kenya Floods Claim Fifty Lives as Heavy Rains Impact Seventeen Nations
Flash floods have affected at least 17 counties, causing significant damage to infrastructure and displacing thousands of families, according to statements from authorities. Nine people are still reported missing, while over 12,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged in multiple regions.
Officials said that multi-agency security and disaster response teams have been deployed to assist impacted communities and coordinate relief efforts. “With 17 counties already affected by flooding and more heavy rainfall expected, multi-agency security and response teams remain deployed across the country to support affected families, coordinate relief efforts, and closely monitor the evolving situation,” the ministry stated.
The hardest-hit areas include Nairobi, Kisumu, Narok, Kiambu, Migori, Siaya, Makueni, Busia, Wajir, Kisii, Homa Bay, Taita Taveta, Baringo, Kajiado, Kitui, Kwale, and Machakos.
The floods have disrupted roads, bridges, and electricity supply in certain regions, while schools and residential areas have also suffered considerable damage. Emergency teams are evacuating people from high-risk zones and delivering relief aid, as authorities warn that the heavy rains could continue into the early stages of the long-rains season.
