Tanzania Seeks Expanded Agricultural Ties with Russia

(MENAFN) Tanzania is aiming to deepen cooperation with Russia in the agricultural sector, with officials describing Moscow’s farming expertise and technology as an important factor in improving national food security, according to reports.

Speaking at a Russian-Tanzanian intergovernmental meeting on trade and economic cooperation in Arusha, a senior Tanzanian minister emphasized that strengthening collaboration in agriculture could significantly support both food security and employment creation.

He also pointed to broader opportunities for bilateral engagement, including trade expansion, investment initiatives, and cooperation in areas such as uranium extraction, which he said could elevate relations between the two countries to a higher strategic level.

Russian officials reportedly noted that trade between the two countries has increased notably in 2025, reaching its highest level in several years in terms of Tanzania’s share in Russia’s external trade.

Current exchange between the two sides includes Russian exports of wheat, meslin, and fertilizers, while Tanzania supplies agricultural products such as tobacco, coffee, tea, and fruit.

Tourism was also highlighted as a growing area of cooperation. Russian officials stated that travel from Russia to Tanzania has risen significantly in 2025, and they expressed support for plans to launch direct air routes between the two countries.

In addition, discussions reportedly included ongoing Russian involvement in a uranium development project in southern Tanzania, with further investment and infrastructure development continuing as part of broader economic cooperation efforts.
